Propane and other gas cylinders (the container itself) are difficult-to-dispose-of items that cannot be collected by the city. They cannot be placed at household waste collection points, resource recovery stations, or as bulky waste. Please request the store where you purchased it to take it back, or arrange for disposal by a licensed general waste disposal company or industrial waste disposal company (fees apply). Cassette gas cylinders for tabletop stoves are recyclables (classified as 'Metal'). Always use up the contents completely before placing them in the designated non-burnable waste bag (semi-transparent with blue lettering) and taking them to a resource collection station. Recyclables must be placed out between dawn and 8:00 AM on collection day. Collection items vary weekly, and there is no collection on the fifth week of the month. There is no requirement to puncture the cylinder. Similarly, spray cans must also have their contents completely used up before being placed out with metals.
